Organizational Agility

In 2025, we built on the feedback from the 2024 employee engagement survey and made significant progress in addressing the opportunity areas through team-level engagement action plans, and refinements to our procurement and our performance management program processes. We continued to provide a workplace that values employees and provides opportunities for our workforce to shine, focusing on employee engagement, innovation and a commitment to community with the support of our 10 Employee Resource Groups.

SMUD’s Diversity Day celebrates what makes
employees unique, encourages connection
and growth.

Our “I am SMUD” campaign celebrated our employees, who they are and how their varied backgrounds contribute to SMUD’s culture of success, inclusion and belonging.

We continued to expand our workforce training opportunities through our Field Leader program for current employees and our Lineworker Scholarship program, which provides a heightened focus on skilled trades for people from historically under-resourced communities. Our workforce programs help ensure there is a diverse and qualified labor pool to meet our regional zero-carbon goals, and that we have talented candidate pipeline for our own hiring needs. In 2025, we partnered with 52 community groups, training over 4,000 people — more than 400 of these participants found employment as a direct result of their participation.

For employees, we continued to evolve and deploy technology, particularly around AI, to improve our capabilities, skills and operational efficiencies. We made significant investments in platforms, training and tools to enhance efficiency and ensure protection against evolving threats.
