We maintained strong customer satisfaction ratings, achieving an overall 97% rating. New technology and processes are helping us continue to enhance communications with our customers, including enrolling all residential customers with an SMS-capable phone number for outage text alerts and expanding outage reporting to 2-way text.

Ensuring a strong community presence in 2024 remained central to our work. We participated in 1,600 events and hosted 2 Connecting Our Community Expos that connected more than 700 SMUD customers to community organizations. We provided resources to customers and Supplier Education and Economic Development (SEED) vendors, increasing the number of SEED small business vendors by over 130, with a total of over 830.
Our employees participated in 65 SMUD Cares events, resulting in over 2,200 hours of volunteer service and pledged an impressive $436,000 of their own funds to local nonprofits during the month-long SMUD Cares employee giving campaign. Our Community Impact Plan, designed to bring the community along on the journey to a clean energy economy, was fully operational with 4 neighborhood electrifications, 7 business electrification walks, over 300 customer site visits, 7 workshops and over 80 customer projects.
Placing significant focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, we engaged with youth and educators throughout the year. Key accomplishments include reaching over 22,000 students through 16 regional STEM events, nearly 200 classroom visits, more than 50 community events and 5 educational tours to inspire the next generation of energy leaders and engage them in SMUD’s zero-carbon effort.
We supported 4 school districts (Sacramento City Unified, Elk Grove Unified, Galt Joint Union Elementary and Galt Joint Union High School) in securing electric transportation funding with their Electric School Bus Rebates Program applications.
SMUD continues to be a trusted leader in promoting the vitality of our region, attracting and retaining businesses and growing our customer base.
