From the CEO: In 2024, SMUD powered our region with partnership, innovation and authority.
2024 was an exceptional year for SMUD. We made great progress in our 2030 Zero Carbon Plan, significantly expanding our clean technology portfolio with solar, battery storage, geothermal and wind projects. We delivered on our purpose to improve the quality of life for all our customers and community and stayed true to our guardrails of affordability, safety and reliability. Each step forward brings us closer to our ultimate goal: A clean and equitable energy future for all.
Safety & Reliability
In 2024, we continued to invest in safety and reliability, including grid reliability, infrastructure, safety for employees, customers and contractors, cybersecurity and enterprise risk.
Environmental Leadership
Our 2030 Zero Carbon Plan is a flexible roadmap to achieve our zero-carbon goal while ensuring all customers and communities we serve reap the benefits of the clean energy transition.
Community Vitality
In 2024, we continued to deliver on the needs of our customers, focusing on outreach, education, technology enhancements and building awareness to achieve a carbon-free future by 2030 in which our customers can equitably participate.
Affordability
SMUD customers continue to receive affordable power, with rates more than 50% lower than our neighboring investor-owned utility and among the lowest in California. This kept about $1.8 billion in our community in 2024.
Organizational Agility
We continued to provide a workplace that values employees and provides opportunities for our workforce to shine, focusing on employee engagement, innovation and an ethical workplace.
