Board Determinations on Two New PURPA Standards: Demand-Response Practices and Electric Vehicle Charging Programs
SMUD’s Board of Directors conducted a public hearing at the Energy Resources & Customer Services Committee meeting on October 18, 2023 to consider two new federal standards in accordance with the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978 (PURPA), as amended by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA): Demand-Response Practices (Section 111(d)(20)) and Electric Vehicle Charging Programs (Section 111(d)(21)). A Staff Report and Findings on the Demand-Response Practices Standard and a Staff Report and Findings on the Electric Vehicle Charging Programs Standard were presented and discussed at the public hearing. On October 19, 2023, SMUD’s Board of Directors adopted a Board Determination for each standard determining that the two federal standards are appropriate for use by SMUD.
