2026 Transmission Pole Maintenance

To ensure reliable service, we’re performing maintenance on six transmission utility poles, which includes: 

  • Removing surface corrosion and applying new protective coatings 
  • Deenergizing distribution lines during repairs for safety; power will be rerouted to prevent interruptions  

Location 

The poles are located behind SMUD Headquarters along the Sac RT Gold Line between 59th and 69th Streets, near the Home2 Suites and Hampton Inn & Suites parking lots.

Community considerations 

Some surface preparation work involves cleaning poles or blasting down to bare metal. Some overspray could extend outside of the immediate work area. 

Timeline 

Mitigation activities occur Oct. – Nov. 2026, 7 days a week, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

The work is completed in two phases: 

  • Phase 1 – Oct.19 - Nov. 1
    • Location / customer impacts (i.e. sidewalks will be closed at XYZ location) 
  • Phase 2 – Nov. 1 - 15 
    • Location / customer impacts (i.e. sidewalks will be closed at XYZ location)

Our contractor, F.D. Thomas, performs the maintenance work with our SMUD inspectors onsite monitoring the repairs.
