SMUD’s Road to Zero Carbon virtual forums are an opportunity to learn more about the progress on our 2030 Zero Carbon Plan to eliminate carbon emissions from our power supply by 2030 – the most ambitious carbon reduction goal of any large utility in the United States.

Meet the presenters

  

Misty Mersich

Misty Mersich manages the Distributed Energy Solutions Program Development & Planning team at SMUD. Her team develops customers solutions in the building electrification, energy efficiency, green pricing,  load flexibility and the transportation electrification program portfolios aligned to meet 2030 Zero Carbon Plan goals. Prior to SMUD, she worked as the Sustainability Manager for the City of Cupertino, where she lead the Sustainability Division  and was one of the key staff in the development and creation of Silicon Valley Clean Energy. Prior to that, she was a Climate Planner for the Sonoma County Regional Climate Protection Authority where she lead the effort to create a county-wide multi- jurisdictional climate action plan; lead for  Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) and managed energy efficiency, water efficiency and electric transportation programs. Misty holds a BS in Business Administration from Cal Poly Humboldt  and a Masters in Urban & Regional Planning from San Jose State University. 


Sara Elsevier

Sara Elsevier Manages the Resource Planning team at SMUD. Her team develops Integrated Resource Plans (IRP) that provides a long-range plan for meeting projected customer demand in an economic and reliable manner while working towards the utility strategic objectives and state policy goals. The latest IRP her team put together was the 2030 Zero Carbon Plan that mapped a flexible pathway to eliminate emission from SMUD’s generation supply by 2030. Prior to working for SMUD, Sara worked as an engineering consultant for Black & Veatch and R.W. Beck. She spent over 10 years in Transmission and Distribution engineering design working on a number of new and retrofit substations. She also spent a number of years working on utility strategic development projects analyzing the capacity value of renewable energy and grid decarbonization strategies. Sara has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Washington State University and is a licensed Electrical Engineer in the State of California.

Rhonda is the Director of Community Relations, Outreach & Support for SMUD. In this role, she manages and oversees SMUD's community outreach programs, initiatives, partnerships, tradeshows, sponsorships, and events. She also develops and maintains relationships with community-based organizations, businesses and ethnic communities to promote customer education and achieve SMUD's business and community goals in support of our diversity and inclusion principles.
