2022 California Arrearage Payment Program (CAPP)
Qualified customers will receive bill credits from 2022 California Arrearage Payment Program (CAPP), a state program that helps Californians pay eligible unpaid energy utility bills that accrued during the COVID-19 pandemic, between March 4, 2020 and December 31, 2021.
Energy utility customers do not need to apply to receive assistance under the 2022 CAPP program. We have applied for CAPP assistance on behalf of customers who incurred a past due balance on their energy bill during the COVID-19 pandemic relief period covering March 4, 2020 through December 31, 2021.
CAPP benefits are credited to qualified customer accounts on a rolling basis as energy utilities apply and are approved for CAPP funding. 2022 CAPP funding will be released to energy utilities by January 31, 2023.The credit will appear on their SMUD bill labeled "2022 CAPP Credit." Customers will be notified once the credit is applied.
Since customers will be required to settle accounts when we resume disconnections, if you have a remaining balance after the CAPP credit was applied, and were previously on an installment plan, you’ll need to reapply at smud.org/MyAccount or call us at 1-888-742-7683.
