Electric vehicle rates

Electric vehicle (EV) owners can participate in SMUD's Time-of-Day (5-8 p.m.) Rate, also known as the TOD rate.

On the TOD rate, when you use electricity is just as important as the amount of electricity you use. You pay different rates for electricity based on the time of day you use it. For example, rates are highest during weekdays in the summer from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

For plug-in EV owners, there is an additional 1.5¢ per kWh credit for charging your EV between midnight and 6 a.m. every day, all year long. For a SMUD account to receive the EV rate credit, a plug-in electric vehicle must be registered with the DMV using the same service address as the SMUD account.
