We understand that sometimes it may be difficult to pay your electric bill. When this happens, we’re dedicated to helping you find a solution. We offer several discounts, programs and partnerships to make paying your bill easier.

Discounts

SMUD offers several discounts to eligible residential customers to help lower your bill.

The Energy Assistance Program Rate (EAPR) offers our eligible low-income customers a 48% discount on their monthly energy costs up to $42 per month. 
Eligible residential customers can receive a $15 monthly discount to assist with the increased energy cost for running certain electric medical equipment.

Payment arrangements

We're here to help when you need more time paying your bill.

We have several payment options available depending on your eligibility.


Option #1: Installments

If you need more time to pay your bill, add the current balance to next month's bill or divide it over several months.

Option #2: Minimum payment

Lower your current month's bill to prevent service disruption by paying the minimum required payment. The remaining balance will carry over to next month's bill.
