My Energy Optimizer Partner+ incentive
Take advantage of our battery storage incentive available for residential customers.
How it works
By joining our battery storage incentive program, My Energy Optimizer Partner+, you can earn financial incentives for making your battery storage unit an even smarter device.
When you partner with us, your battery will reduce energy usage during the hours when demand is highest and clean energy resources are scarce. This could include shifting the time when your battery is used to power your home. The interactions would be seamless to you and no extra effort is needed on your part.
Program participants will have full access to the amount of power available in their battery storage system during a power outage. SMUD will always leave customers with a 20% reserve at the end of an event in case of an outage overnight.

Enrollment incentive
My Energy Optimizer Partner+ includes a one-time enrollment incentive of up to $10,000 per household. The enrollment incentive is available to new battery energy storage system (BESS) customers that enroll within 90 days after receiving permission to operate (PTO) from SMUD.
Quarterly incentives
Currently, ongoing quarterly incentives are only available for Tesla batteries, which are optimized year-round and will continue to be available for customer use, such as backup power needs in the event of an outage. Other qualified battery manufactures may participate in the incentive program but are only eligible to receive the enrollment incentive at this time.
Eligibility requirements and information
- To be eligible for this program, you must have a battery storage unit installed at your home and participate in SMUD’s Solar and Storage Rate (SSR).
- Individual rental units are ineligible at this time until SMUD determines a way for owners and their tenants to mutually benefit from the program. Multifamily homes (including apartments, condos and duplexes) are eligible as well but same tenant restrictions apply.
- MED Rate customers are not eligible for the My Energy Optimizer Partner+ program.
If you’re adding a new solar system with battery storage or a battery storage system only, there's a one-time interconnection fee to connect to SMUD’s grid to recover the cost of providing interconnection service. Your solar installer should already be aware of this fee. If you're adding battery storage to an existing solar system, an interconnection fee does not apply.
Incentive amounts
Incentive available by enrolling within 90 Days from Permission to Operate (PTO), based on $500/kWh minus 20% holdback (up to $10,000 per household)
Note: Quarterly incentives currently only available for Tesla (1 battery: $110, 2 batteries: $220, 3+ batteries: $330)
