Oselot-Baroque Substation and Line Project
We’re constructing an overhead power line in the Oselot-Zinfandel neighborhood to help maintain reliability while supporting growth and development for our customers in the area. In addition to ensuring electric reliability, the project will reroute a planned power line to be further away from residential properties in the surrounding neighborhood.
The Oselot-Baroque Substation and Line project is in the city of Rancho Cordova. It’s within the boundaries of Zinfandel Drive, Sunrise Boulevard, International Drive and Douglas Road.
Beginning in the fall of 2022, you may notice SMUD employees or our contractors performing work in the areas shown in the project map below. Work will be completed in two phases. The project is expected to be complete by early 2023.
What is
involved in the Oselot-Baroque
Substation and Line Project?
This project will add an additional subtransmission loop to help supply dependable power to the neighborhood. It will also move the subtransmission line further away from the residential properties located to the west of the Folsom South Canal. A section of the subtransmission line will be relocated from the west side of the Folsom South Canal, to the east side which increases the distance from the residential property line from approximately 45 feet to 340 feet.
What construction impacts can you anticipate?
During construction, you may see crews and trucks installing poles and cables. While we don’t anticipate any power outages, to ensure the safety of our customers and crews, a temporary service interruption may be necessary to make repairs. We'll send you a separate notice in advance with details if an outage is necessary.
We also anticipate traffic, noise and other impacts while the work is underway. If activities might significantly impact an area, we will communicate special updates to affected residents.
If you have a critical need for electricity for medical or other reasons, we recommend you have a back-up plan for an outage in your neighborhood.
What are the environmental impacts?
The Subsequent Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration (SIS/MND) analyzed the potential environmental effects associated with the proposed project in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). In compliance with the CEQA Guidelines, we completed the Notice of Intent (NOI) in 2020.
