High infiltration, outdated heated and cooling systems, inadequate insulation, faulty duct installation, duct leakage and single-paned windows can cause your home to leak energy impacting your overall comfort and could be costing you hundreds of dollars a year on your utility bill. The Home Performance Program allows you to bundle your energy efficiency upgrades for greater comfort and efficiency.

Improve the comfort and quality of your home today
Improving the comfort and quality of your home starts with a consultation with a SMUD qualified Home performance contractor. Your Home Performance Contractor will evaluate your home’s energy systems, including:

  • Air sealing (infiltration rate)
  • Attic insulation
  • Smoke and carbon monoxide alarm
  • Duct sizing and sealing
  • Wall and floor insulation
  • Air conditioner and furnace
  • Water heater
  • Windows
  • Whole house fan
  • Pool pumps
Note: Energy efficiency upgrades must be bundled to qualify for Home Peformance Program rebates. Multiple measures required in order to qualify

How It Works

  1. Review a list of participating contractors and schedule an appointment
  2. Select your upgrades. Review contractor recommendations and select the upgrades that will yield the greatest results. Note: some measures are mandatory depending upon the existing condition of the home.
  3. Complete your upgrades. Your contractor will install your upgrades and complete all required paperwork needed to get your rebate.
  4. Collect your rebate. Your rebate check from SMUD will arrive 4-6 weeks after all paperwork has been received.

Savings, Rebates & Financing
Depending on the upgrades you choose to install, you can achieve an average of 15% in annual electric savings. Rebates available up to $5,000 for gas heated homes or $8,000 for electric heated homes. The more improvements you do to your home, the higher the rebate will be.
