SMUD named a 2019 most trusted brand

Today, Cogent Syndicated announced that SMUD has been named one of the most trusted brands among residential customers for 2019 based on results from its Utility Trusted Brand & Customer EngagementTM: Residential report. The nationwide report ranked SMUD third among electric utilities and first among California and its Western electric peers.

This is the third year that SMUD has received this award.

“We work hard to do what’s best for our community by providing clean, reliable power and innovative customer programs that save money and reduce air pollution,” said SMUD CEO and General Manager Arlen Orchard. “Putting the community first is paramount and is why we are so honored to receive this award.”

According to Cogent, brand trust is being driven by community support and communication effectiveness with residential customers.

Utilities are earning trust by encouraging employee volunteerism, listening to community feedback and making consumers more aware of local support and charitable giving.

The study ranks 140 electric-only, natural gas and combination utility brands based on 62,122 residential customer responses from July 2018 through June 2019.

SMUD is well-known for its community giving campaigns, encouraging employees to volunteer and give back. In fact, in 2018, employees donated more than 18,473 volunteer hours to local nonprofits and gave nearly $500,000 through SMUD’s charitable giving campaigns.
In addition, SMUD provides dozens of programs that provide rebates and incentives that save customers money, make their homes and businesses more efficient and reduce harmful emissions.
