Country Acres Solar Project

As part of our efforts to continue providing carbon-free, reliable energy, we are planning a solar and battery energy storage project connected to SMUD’s grid.

Project benefits

The project will:

  • Provide enough zero carbon electricity to power more than 80,000 homes a year, which is equal to taking more than 25,000 cars a year off the road.
  • Contribute more than $41 million to the local economy and support more than 360 jobs in the county during the construction phase.
  • Once operational, be expected to contribute $3.7 million to the local economy and $15 million in economic value to the state each year.

Environmental review

SMUD released the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) on September 13, 2022. The EIR meets the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requirements and SMUD will serve as the lead agency for CEQA compliance.

Public meeting

A public meeting will be held on October 13, 2022, to receive input from agencies and the public on the draft EIR. The meeting will occur as part of the Placer County Planning Commission Meeting beginning at 10 a.m. at the Placer County Planning Commission Chambers, 3091 County Center Drive, Auburn, CA 95603. The meeting can be attended in person or virtually. View the instructions to attend the meeting virtually.
