Enterprise Strategy

Customer & Grid Strategy

Responsible for developing company-wide strategies for customer services and distributed energy solutions, grid improvements in light of our resource plan and increased adoption of customer distributed technologies. The department also identifies research and development priorities to determine new technologies and business models as we transition to a zero carbon future while continuing to meet our customers’ expectations for safe, reliable, low-cost and environmentally responsible energy and related services.

Resource Strategy

Develops SMUD’s strategy to achieve zero carbon in our power supply by 2030 through our energy portfolio. Establishes long-term energy resource plans and oversees their implementation through SMUD’s Integrated Resources Plan. The team also considers and integrates how new resources will be utilized, including development and management of market strategy to drive SMUD’s participation in, sales to, and use of wholesale energy markets to meet our energy supply needs.

Revenue Strategy

Responsible for developing SMUD’s revenue strategy, including forecasting SMUD’s load to support various planning processes and setting SMUD’s rates. The department develops and implements SMUD’s pricing strategy and administers the rates process, with the goal of maintaining rates that are among the lowest in California.

Enterprise Prioritization

Drives prioritization at the corporate level aligned to SMUD’s enterprise strategy. The team makes upfront, risk-based assessments of all of SMUD’s capital, operations and maintenance projects and programs to determine highest priorities and alignment with SMUD’s overall business strategy, including our 2030 Zero Carbon Plan.
