22nd Street Underground Cable Replacement Project

Providing safe, reliable and affordable electric service is at the core of what we do. We’re upgrading underground electric equipment to maintain reliable service and meet the growing electric needs in downtown Sacramento. Proactively replacing underground power cables and equipment is one way we’re investing to maintain reliability and service the growing downtown area.

The project involves installing about 8,500 linear feet of 21 kilovolt (kV) underground cable along 22nd Street. The 21kV cable path runs from 22nd and C Street, to 21st and R Street. This work ties into our Station E Substation, located north of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in downtown Sacramento.

Construction is in progress and is expected to continue through July 2025. Work begins at C Street and moves south on 22nd Street until complete.
