Visitor policy
All visitors must provide valid identification before visiting any SMUD campus, facility or SMUD-owned property.
Required identification
Visitors must provide a valid SMUD employee badge or identification card to security personnel maintaining the visitor log. Examples include:
- State-issued REAL-ID compliant driver’s license
- US passport
- Certified true copy of birth certificate
- Documents as established by Security Operations
Requirements for non-US citizens or foreign nationals
The following process applies to all visitors, delegations, contractors and non-SMUD employees who are neither a US citizen nor a legal permanent resident (foreign national). If the required information is not provided before the visit or meeting, entry onto SMUD property may not be granted.
The foreign national's point of contact must:
- Contact Cybersecurity@smud.org and PhysicalSecurity@smud.org for instructions to securely transmit PII for individual visitors, contractors, and meetings.
- Contact SMUDInternationalVisitors@smud.org for instructions if hosting a foreign delegation and/or conference.
- Ensure a response is provided either giving approval, providing approval with conditions, or a rejection prior to the visit.
The foreign national’s identity information must be submitted to SMUD's Cybersecurity Operations and Physical Security at least two weeks prior to the visit. This includes:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Passport number
- Passport country
- Country of origin
- Organization
This information is considered personally identifiable information (PII) and should not be provided via email. All PII will be maintained and protected according to SMUD policies and procedures.
Identify verification
Upon arrival at the SMUD facility, foreign nationals must present their government-issued identification to Security Operations for verification before receiving a visitor badge. Acceptable identification is considered to be a valid passport, though other documents may be considered at the discretion of Security Operations personnel at the time of the visit.
