New secure
SMUD e-mail

Email Security

To keep your personal information secure, SMUD will send all future e-mails that contain personally identifiable information through our new secure e-mail system. Personally identifiable information includes items like your name, address, Social Security number, driver’s license number and so on.

SMUD’s secure e-mail system encrypts your message so it can’t be viewed by someone else as it travels across the Internet.

When contacting SMUD through e-mail for billing inquiries or other services, please do not include any confidential information in the initial e-mail. This is for your safety. Include the minimum information necessary to initiate a conversation, such as, “I have a question about my bill” or “I would like to change my move-in date.” A SMUD representative will respond with a secure message requesting additional information.

If you currently have an online SMUD account, all communications to SMUD while logged into your SMUD account are already secure.
