SMUD's vision is clear on air quality
Since 1990, SMUD has paved the way to improve air quality through the use of electric transportation solutions in the Sacramento region.
SMUD's innovative efforts have enabled electric vehicles to replace petroleum vehicles in many applications and are supported by electric charging stations throughout California. With continued research and consistent community outreach, SMUD will continue to improve the quality of life throughout the Sacramento valley.
Charging rates
SMUD's EV charging rate is approximately half the regular residential rate. To take advantage of the EV charging rate, an additional meter must be installed at the residence with a dedicated EV charging outlet. To request the EV charging rate, or for questions concerning charging stations and general EV information, please contact SMUD Electric Transportation at (916) 732-5486.
Rate Schedule R for Residential Customers and rate schedule GS for commercial customers provide off-peak charging at about $ 0.04 per kWh, which amounts to an annual refueling cost between $125 and $250 per year for the typical EV user.
Free EV parking
To apply for a permit for free EV parking in city lots, contact the City of Sacramento's Parking Administration Office at (916) 264-5110, or apply in person at 312 K St.
