SMUD's Mow Down event a success
The 2010 Mow Down event was a huge success, with 1680 area residents registering for new rechargable electric mowers. We thank everyone who participated, and look forward to next year's event.
In cooperation with the Sacramento Air Quality Management District, the Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District, Placer County Air Pollution Control District, El Dorado County Air Quality Management District, SMUD is again helping Sacramento-area residents trade in their gas-powered lawn mowers for a discounted electric rechargeable model.
The popular annual event is part of a community-wide effort to remove old mowers and the pollution they produce and replace them with electric models that help to keep the air cleaner in the Sacramento area.
Those who registered will be given specific times to exchange their mower on Saturday, March 27, at California State University, Sacramento Parking Lot #10. The appointment-system will minimize waiting in line and will guarantee all registered customers will be able to purchase a new lawn mower. Customers who register successfully for the event will receive e-mail or mail confirmations with complete instructions.
The lawn mower exchange will take place rain or shine. Customers will be able to drop off their old gas mower and purchase a new electric mower without leaving their cars. The event will be set up for customers to drive through each step of the exchange process.
With the trade-in of an old gasoline-powered mower (which must be drained of fluids prior to being accepted), the price for the new rechargeable mower is $169 (tax included) for the 14" mower and $269 (tax included) for the larger 19" model. These prices reflect a savings of over $220 off the regular retail price. For information on the mowers technical specifications, visit www.neutonpower.com/smud.
If you live in Sacramento, Yolo, Solano, El Dorado or Placer counties, you are eligible to register for this event. For more information on the Mow Down event call (916) 732-6227.
