Ward 4
Board President Genevieve Shiroma
Genevieve Shiroma was first elected to the SMUD Board of Directors in November 1998 to represent the Fourth Ward. Ward 4 includes the Sacramento neighborhoods of Curtis Park, Land Park, Greenhaven, Pocket and the communities of Laguna, City of Elk Grove and Walnut Grove. She was elected by her colleagues to serve as President of the Board in 2002 and 2006, and currently for 2010. (See map of SMUD territory.)
Shiroma serves on the Agricultural Labor Relations Board, a gubernatorial appointment. The Governor of California first appointed Shiroma to the Board in May 1999. Prior to her appointment, she worked for the California Air Resources Board for more than 20 years. She served as chief of the Air Quality Measures Branch and worked on programs to identify toxic air contaminants and reduce air pollutants from sources including power plants, consumer products, landfills, hazardous waste disposal, and pesticide use.
A native of Lodi, Shiroma is married and lives in Curtis Park. Genevieve volunteers in the community and serves on the Boards of the United Way California Capital Region and the Capital Unity Council.
Shiroma graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a bachelor's degree in material science and engineering.
