SMUD means business

We're proud to partner with innovative leaders like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento. By helping them assess their energy usage, we're able to extend the good they do in our community.

"Powering Futures" scholarships

At SMUD, we recognize the value of education and the impact it can have on our families and our community. We're proud to offer Powering Futures, a special program to award up to $60,000 in college scholarships for local students. As many as 21 local students may receive up to $5,000 each in scholarships.

Scholarship details

We're excited you're interested in our "Powering Futures" scholarship. Please review some of the scholarship details below.

Minimum requirements

  • Be a current high school senior or graduate; have earned a GED certificate; or currently be a postsecondary undergraduate student.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0, based on a 4.0 scale.
  • Plan to enroll in an accredited 2 or 4 year college/university in the U.S. in the fall of 2017.
  • Be a SMUD customer living in SMUD's service area, or have a SMUD customer as a legal guardian.

Awards will be based on merit and financial need with a preference for students with a major relevant to SMUD. Not open to SMUD employees or their relatives.

In partnership with the Sacramento Tree Foundation, we invest more than $1 million a year to help deliver and plant free shade trees throughout the area.
