This year we're celebrating 70 years of powering the people, communities and businesses that inspire us. We're shining a light on all the ways you help us make a difference — so we can keep powering what you love.
SMUD Cares is our way of showing what’s in our hearts. Our employees are passionate about supporting the causes we care about and it shows. Each year, SMUD employees give back in a big way, helping to make our community better, brighter and stronger. In the past 11 years, employees have personally donated about $3.5 million through our annual charitable giving campaign. It’s what keeps us going. We’re showing you just how much we care by giving our time, donations and service back to our community – because SMUD Cares.
We're launching a new community sponsorship program. We call it Shine. With it, we're inviting you to request funding for projects that will improve and revitalize our local neighborhoods to help them Shine.
Shine awards will range from $5,000 to $100,000 and are very competitive. Any nonprofit organization - 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(6) - within SMUD service territory is eligible to apply.
We're proud to partner with innovative leaders like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sacramento.
By helping the Boys & Girls Clubs to assess their energy usage, we're able to aid local non-profits in extending the good they do in our community.
At SMUD, we recognize the value of education and the impact it can have on our families and our community.
We're proud to offer Powering Futures, a special program to award up to $60,000 in college scholarships for local students. As many as 21 local students may receive up to $5,000 each in scholarships.
We're proud to light your homes, your businesses and the streets around your neighborhood. And because we're community owned and not-for-profit, we keep you at the heart of all we do.
Together, we've brightened our region with volunteers, donations, education and support for what you care about most.
We are your electric utility, and because of you, we are 70 years bright.
Residents at the ACC Care Center are sleeping better these days. Our partnership blossomed when we implemented cutting-edge lighting control strategies in an effort to improve the health, safety and lives of the Alzheimer's and dementia patients living there. Some residents have experienced improved sleep patterns, suffered fewer falls and taken less medication since the new lighting was installed.
