You can be a hero to our neighbors in need

Our EnergyHELP program provides qualified low-income customers with immediate financial assistance to keep the electricity on in their homes. EnergyHELP is funded by customers like you who donate as little as $1 a month on their SMUD bill. Altogether, SMUD customers have donated more than $5 million since the program started in 2004 to provide others with the basic necessity of electricity.

You can sign up below to add a monthly tax-deductible contribution to your SMUD bill. You'll see a line item on your monthly bill for the donation amount of your choosing. Your donations are tax-deductible to the maximum amount allowed by law.

We will contact you to confirm your enrollment.

How funds are distributed

Your donations are distributed to SMUD customers in need through four charities: The Salvation Army, Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, Travelers Aid and Folsom Cordova Community Partnership. These organizations were chosen through a competitive bid process and meet SMUD's strict requirements for experience in efficiently serving people in need throughout the Sacramento area.

You select the charity that will distribute the funds you donate.

Qualified recipients may receive assistance of up to $200 a year toward unpaid balances on their SMUD bill.
