SMUD Powering Futures Scholarship

Energizing Education

At SMUD, we recognize the value of education and the impact it can have on our families and our community. We're proud to offer Powering Futures, a special program to award up to $60,000 in college scholarships for local students. As many as 21 local students may receive up to $5,000 each in scholarships.

Minimum requirements
Applicants* must meet the following:

  • Be a current high school senior or graduate; have earned a GED certificate; or currently be a postsecondary undergraduate student.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0, based on a 4.0 scale.
  • Plan to enroll in an accredited 2 or 4 year college/university in the U.S. in the fall of 2017.
  • Be a SMUD customer living in SMUD's service area, or have a SMUD customer as a legal guardian.

*(Not open to SMUD employees or their relatives)

Awards will be based on merit and financial need with a preference for students with a major relevant to SMUD.

Internships offered

Some scholarships also include a paid internship. Only full time students will qualify for internships.

  • ACT/SAT Test Scores (freshman, sophomore)
  • High School Transcript (freshman, sophomore)
  • College Transcript (sophomore, junior, senior)
  • FAFSA or SAR (everyone)
  • Letter showing program acceptance(STEM-declared freshman)
