Upper American River Project

We support a variety of causes and organizations to make Sacramento a greener and more beautiful place to live. We’ve been recognized by the National Arbor Day Foundation and Tree Line USA for our efforts to maintain and protect our "urban forest."

Tree planting

In a partnership with the Sacramento Tree Foundation, we invest more than $1 million a year to help plant free shade trees throughout the area. Not only are the trees attractive, they will help keep your house cooler, saving you energy and money.

Community Shade

We help fund the Community Shade program, which supplies more than 5,000 trees per year to public places such as parks, playgrounds and schools. To learn more, call the Sacramento Tree Foundation at 916-974-4300.

Wood chips

We offer free wood chips to spread as mulch around trees and shrubs. When mixed with leaves and twigs, the wood chips make soil more fertile, and help trees keep growing during the summer heat. You can pick up the chips at the following locations. Be sure to bring your own tools to load the chips, and bags to carry them in, or a tarp to cover a pickup load.
