There are a number of easy ways to convert paper receipts into digital documents, ready to upload or store for archiving purposes. Generally accepted formats for document uploads include PDF files as well as image files such as JPG, PNG and GIF.

Here are a few of the quickest and simplest methods:

Use a scanner
If you have access to a scanner, this may be the most familiar method of converting documents. Most scanning software allows you to save in a number of formats. Once you have scanned and saved the documnet, simply upload it directly or email it to another devise for uploading.

Scan documents with your smart phone or tablet
Some smart-phone applications specialize in scanning and creating documents using the phone's camera. A number of these applications are free or available at minimal cost, and are available for different operating syaytems such as Aplle iOS and Android.

For the best results, make sure to scan using good lighting and a steady hand. Some applications offer the ability to save your scanned documents directly to the phone or to an online cloud service such as Dropbox or Google Drive.

Take a picture with your smart phone or tablet
Similar to using a scanning app, simply taking a picture of a document with your phone will create a digital image file which can then be saved and uploaded.

Be sure to get all of the document in the photo, holding your phone evenly above the document at an agle parallel to it. It is best to photograph the document in good lighting, avoiding the use of the camera's flash, which can make the image washed out and difficult to read.

Store and retrieve documents online with cloud services
If you use an online cloud service such as Dropbox or Google Drive to store documents and images, you can often send or upload files directly from them. Check with the features of your particular service for details.
