Clean up, construction and haul route
SMUD plans to safely remove the hazardous waste and resume substation construction. Cape Environmental Management has been awarded a waste removal contract that includes the following activities:
- Excavation, removal and disposal of up to 64,000 tons of unacceptable soil and debris
- Processing and compaction of acceptable soil
- Import and compaction of clean fill
Waste removal and clean-up is expected to take place from March 2018 through September 2018.
We have identified a haul route that will minimize impact to nearby neighborhoods.

Two types of vehicles will be primarily used for waste removal. Truck haul hours are tentatively scheduled for 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
