Bill Slaton

Bill Slaton was first elected to the SMUD Board of Directors in November 2002 to represent Ward 7, which includes North Highlands, Carmichael, Antelope and Foothill Farms. He served as the Board President in 2005, 2013 and 2017. 

A Sacramento-area resident since 1974, Slaton lives with his family in Carmichael. He is active in community and religious affairs throughout the region. Slaton is a former chairman of the board of KVIE-Channel 6, Sacramento's public television station and a past member of Point West Rotary. He is also a former president of the Jewish Federation of the Sacramento Region and is a co-founder of the Jewish Community Foundation of the West.

Slaton served on the Policy Makers Council (PMC) of the American Public Power Association. APPA is the national trade association for more than 2,000 public power agencies across the U.S. The PMC is composed of 40 elected officials who govern public power agencies and who advocate in Washington on behalf of their customers. He served as the chair of PMC in 2014.

In 2012, Slaton was appointed by Governor Brown to serve on the California Public Employees Retirement System Board of Administration representing local government agencies. He was re-appointed by the governor in 2015.

Slaton graduated from the University of Texas with a bachelor's degree in business administration. His professional career focused on arranging financing for public agency information technology projects throughout the Western states.
