SMUD limiting Rancho Seco Recreational Area during Independence Day holiday
SMUD is limiting access to Rancho Seco Recreational Area this Fourth of July holiday weekend to comply with capacity and social distancing restrictions mandated by state government due to Covid-19.
SMUD is restricting access to only 100 day-use vehicles and anticipates quickly reaching capacity and then closing the park, probably around 9:00 a.m. on July 3, 4, and 5. Folks who make the trip may be disappointed to learn that the park is full and closed when they arrive.
In addition to SMUD restricting the park to just 100 day-use vehicles, access to the beach area will be restricted and is limited to just 75 people due to a limited number of lifeguards. Typically, the beach area gets about 350 people on the Fourth of July weekend.
Safety is SMUD’s Guiding Principle. We understand restrictions like these are disappointing, but as a community-owned electric company, the safety and wellbeing of the public and the park’s employees must come first.
Rancho Seco Recreational Area is a favorite place for camping, fishing and recreating. Each summer, the typical Independence Day holiday weekend sees the park reach its 750-vehicle day-use capacity.
