With SMUD's Power Protection, your electronic equipment will be protected, even if you are away from home.
SMUD's Power Protection Service offers two levels of service. Having both levels gives you the maximum warranty protection.
Whole house protection: Stop surges at the electric meter
A whole house protection device is installed on your meter to intercept power surges. This unit is effective in protecting appliances with motors, such as your dishwasher, air conditioner, washer, dryer and refrigerator. It is the only way to protect appliances that are "hardwired" and not plugged into an outlet.
- Whole house protection is $6.95 per month. An initial six-month minimum service period is required.
- The monthly fee is conveniently charged to your SMUD electric bill.
- You don't have to be home for the installation.
- Your appliances are warranted by the manufacturer against damage from surges. Plug-in surge protection: Stop surges through telephone and cable lines
Plug-in protectors offer an additional level of protection for your electronics. These devices provide the only way to protect your plug-in equipment from power surges that originate from within your home or that come into your home over the telephone or cable TV lines.
- For $39 each plus tax, you can get a surge protector with eight outlets and phone/modem jack and coaxial cable-TV jack.
- The one-time fee is conveniently charged to your monthly SMUD electric bill.
