Paying your bill

Online

Safe, secure eBill is the easiest way to pay, from your checking account or with a credit card or ATM/debit card. Click here to get started.

Our eBill service also offers a fast easy way to check your usage and enroll in SMUD programs.

Mail

Telephone

To pay by phone, call our automated services menu line toll-free at
1-888-742-SMUD (7683) to authorize an electronic payment from your checking account or Visa® credit/debit card (this option is available 24 hours a day for Residential customers.

Commercial customers: please review our payment options for Commercial Accounts.)

If you wish to speak to a Customer Services representative to authorize an electronic payment from your checking account or from your Visa, MasterCard®, or Discover® card, there is a $4.25 service charge per transaction.

In person

You may pay in person at our Customer Service Center, 6301 S St. (corner of 65th Street, just north of Highway 50), or visit one of our pay stations. The Customer Service Center is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Electronic funds transfer

For check-free convenience, you can arrange to have your bill paid automatically every month through our Electronic Funds Transfer service. You will still receive a SMUD bill for your records, and your checking account will be automatically debited on the due date of your bill. This service is free of charge. Stop, start or transfer service

To start, stop or move your SMUD service, use our online service or call our Customer Services line toll-free at 1-888-742-SMUD (7683) during normal business hours.

TDD service and foreign language services

  • For TDD service, call 916-732-6630 during business hours or
    916-732-5596 after hours. (Note: Requires use of an electronic text communication device for the hearing impaired)

Ways to help you manage your energy dollars

  • Budget Billing: Equal monthly payment program for customers with higher winter or summer electric bills. For more information, call
    1-888-742-SMUD (7683) or e-mail customer services.

  • Energy Assistance Program Rate (EAPR): Discount electric rate for persons with limited income. Applications processed by the State of California. Call 1-866-675-6624 to apply.

  • Medical Equipment Discount Rate: Monthly discount for households that require use of medical equipment. For more information, call
    1-888-742-SMUD (7683) or e-mail customer services.

  • Senior Citizen/Third Party Notification: A program that provides for special notifications to prevent unnecessary service interruptions because of late payments. For more information, call 1-888-742-SMUD (7683) or e-mail customer services.

PG&E payments accepted

Drop off your PG&E bill payment at one of SMUD's Customer Service Center. PG&E also accepts SMUD payments. Allow two work days for payments to post.
