Energy Saving Tips for Your Business

    Office equipment

  • Purchase electronic equipment with the ENERGY STAR® label - these items use about 30% less energy.
  • Turn off smaller appliances (i.e. cell phone chargers, coffee pots, computers, printers, TV's) at the wall, or power strip, when not in use.
  • Install motion sensors on lighting in less-occupied areas such as restrooms.
  • Turn off all lights and equipment every night and weekend

ENERGY STAR® Compact Fluorescent Lights

  • Use up to 75% less energy than an incandescent bulb.
  • Last about 10 times longer than an incandescent bulb, requiring fewer bulb replacements.
  • An ENERGY STAR CFL will save about $30 over its lifetime and pay for itself in 6 months.
  • Come in a variety of shapes and sizes to fit most applications.
  • CFLs emit less heat, making them cooler to the touch and safer.
  • Replacing a single incandescent bulb with a CFL will keep a half-ton of CO2 out of the atmosphere over the life of the bulb.
  • RECYCLE. RECYCLE. RECYCLE. CFLs must be disposed of properly. Click here for information on recycling CFLs and recycling locations.

T8 Fluorescent Lighting

  • Replace T12 fluorescent tube lighting with energy efficient T8 fluorescent tubes and ballasts, and replace regular incandescent bulbs with energy saving compact fluorescents. More.
  • T8s use 30% less energy, offer better color and brightness, have a longer life and are flicker-free.

Air conditioning / Heating

  • Set the thermostat at 78 degrees or higher in the summer and 68 or lower in the winter. You can save about 5 to 10 percent on energy costs for every two degrees you raise the setting.
  • Exhaust fans for paint booths and operations with odors or toxic fumes increase air conditioning loads. Try to schedule them before 4pm or after 7pm.
