Vegetation Management

Sacramento Municipal Utility District Vegetation Management Department inspects and maintains approximately 212,000 trees in the Districts 900 square-mile service area. Large portions of the overhead conductors are in backyard easements. Trees are inspected and pruned as required each trim cycle to ensure our community is provided with safe and reliable electric service. Under the leadership of the SMUD Vegetation Management program managers, specially trained and qualified tree care professionals are employed to provide a successful Vegetation Management Program.
Sacramento has been recognized by the National Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA. SMUD has been awarded the Tree Line USA award each year from 2001 and is designated for the 2008 award for its outstanding Vegetation Management program. SMUD takes great pride in partnering with other organizations to maintain and protect our valuable “Urban Forest”.
