Solar Surcharge
The Solar Surcharge is applied to all energy usage to meet Senate Bill 1(SB1) requirements by the end of 2016. The surcharge is recalculated on January 1 of each year.
The current Solar Surcharge is: $0.0002/kWh

Adjustments
Hydro Generation Adjustment (HGA)
The HGA is applied to all energy usage to fund the SMUD Hydro Rate Stabilization Fund, which self-insures SMUD against dry hydro years. The HGA is recalculated on April 10 of each year.

Discounts
SMUD offers two discounts to eligible residential customers and one discount to eligible non-profit agency customers.
Energy Assistance Program Rate (EAPR)
Eligible residential and non-profit agency customers may receive a low-income EAPR discount on their monthly bill. Residential EAPR program information and application are available here.

Medical Equipment Discount (MED)
Eligible residential customers may receive a discount to assist them with the increased energy cost for running qualified electric medical equipment. MED program information and application are available here.
