Bill and meter information
By keeping track of the kilowatt-hours (kWh) you use, and when you use them, you can become an energy manager right in your own home or business -- that can mean energy savings.
Your electric meter measures the amount of electricity you purchased from SMUD, and that usage is shown on your monthly bill.
Billing charges and kWh use can vary between two different periods for a variety of reasons:
- SMUD's rates are lower during the November-April winter period than in the summer billing period of May-October.
- Varying weather between months will also dictate how much heating or cooling you use.
- The billing period may cover anywhere from 27 to 34 days, so the total kWh for one month can include up to seven more days of usage.
- See the meter reading schedule to find the number of days in your billing cycle.
