SMUD’s economic development team is ready to assist customers on business attraction, and retention and community development opportunities. Building relationships with external organizations with the primary focus of growing SMUD’s revenue base to positively affect our local Sacramento economy. This includes efforts to bring new jobs to the area, retain and expand existing businesses, provide assistance to businesses that promote energy efficiency, and assist small and emerging businesses.

Incentives and Rates
Your SMUD Rates
SMUD business customers pay lower electric bills than most Californians. Compared to PG&E rates, SMUD business owners pay significantly less. View rate comparison.
Economic Development Rate Option
This option is applicable to full service customers with load in excess of 299 kW who create a minimum of 50 new jobs and add load at a new or expanded site. For existing customers, only the additional load will qualify for the discount.
Eligibility for this discount is limited to customers with Standard Industrial Classifications (SIC) 2000-3999 Manufacturing, 4800-4899 Communications, 7300-7499 Business Services and 8700-8799 Professional Services or the equivalent new NAICS codes. Qualified customers must agree to be a full service customer for five years. Qualified customers will receive a reduction of the service, demand, facilities and energy components of their bill, based on the following table.

Grow Sacramento Fund (GSF) is a loan program for businesses in the City of Sacramento and Sacramento County. GSF is funded jointly by SMUD and the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency. GSF's purpose is to create or retain jobs and to assist energy-related businesses. More.
