Simple options to manage your bills

Manage your SMUD bill Let SMUD help make your monthly bill paying chores a little easier with a few simple payment options.

Start by visiting www.smud.org, and logging in securely to "Your Account." It's a place to see your current bill, past bills and a two-year record of your energy usage.

Next, click on the free Home Energy Analysis, a fun, graphical tool that shows you where your energy dollars are going. You'll find ways to maximize your savings, and learn about rebates and incentives on home equipment and appliances.

To make bill-paying simple, SMUD offers several choices:

  • eBill. Lets you pay online whenever it fits your schedule. Use a credit card or pay directly from your checking account.
  • Auto Bill Pay. Pay your bill automatically each month by withdrawal from your bank account or credit card.
  • Budget billing. Lets you even-out your bills from month-to-month with a payment amount based on your previous 12-month average. It helps you plan your budget and avoid drastic fluctuations in your bill during the year.
For those in special circumstances, SMUD offers certain discounts and can help with special assistance:
  • Energy Assistance Program Rate (EAPR). A discount for qualifying low-income ratepayers.
  • Medical Equipment Discount (MED) Rate. For customers with someone living in their home that requires an electrical device for medical reasons.
  • Bill Assistance. Assistance to low-income customers whose electricity has been, or is about to be, disconnected for non-payment.

Keep away from downed power lines Stay safe, keep away from downed power lines

With the onset of the winter storm season, SMUD reminds everyone of the dangers of downed power lines and poles.

If you see a downed power line or damaged pole, assume that the line is still live. Stand clear, keep others away, and call SMUD at 1-(888)-742-SMUD (7683).

If power lines fall onto a motor vehicle, avoid contact with the vehicle. It is likely to be electrified, and deadly shock could result from touching the vehicle and the ground at the same time.

At SMUD, the safety of customers, employees and the community is a top priority. Understanding the risks makes everyone safer.

Keep the Number Handy

To report downed power lines, call 1-(888)-742-SMUD (7683)

Stay safe, keep away.
