Notice of Resolution of Application to Exercise a Latent Power
This section includes the notice of public hearing and other documents associated with SMUD’s application to the Sacramento Local Area Formation Commission (LAFCo) for approval to activate a latent power authorized under Section 12801 of the Municipal Utility District Act. (Cal. Pub. Util. Code §§ 11501, et seq.) In addition to providing electric services within its service territory, SMUD seeks to activate a latent power to enable SMUD to provide thermal energy services (i.e., heat) to retail customers at appropriate locations within its existing boundaries, otherwise known as district energy services.

Public Good Report 2007
SMUD has a long history of public goods programs that benefit the community. These programs include:
- Discounted rates for customers who qualify as low income and those who are dependent on medical equipment.
- Energy-efficiency programs such as offering free shade trees and energy audits and working with builders to make new homes and businesses more energy efficient.
- Renewable energy resources and technologies such as wind and solar power.
- The development and demonstration of advanced science or technologies.
In 2007, SMUD committed more than $59 million to Public Good programs, including more than $3 million to supplement or implement additional energy-efficiency programs for customers.
