E-House

e-houseLocated on the first floor of the Center, E-House is a full-scale walk-through model of an energy efficient home.

It showcases a variety of residential construction techniques including:

  • Framing
  • Siding
  • Roofing
  • Ductwork
  • Energy-efficient windows
  • New daylighting products
  • A ground-source heat pump
  • Whole house fan
  • And many more

An interactive video display provides additional information on a wide variety of topics on home energy efficiency.

Six different scenarios demonstrate the difference between fluorescent and incandescent lighting as well as top and side fixture mounting.

Did you know that many of the traffic signals you see every day have been switched from incandescent to LED? This display demonstrates the increased efficiency of LED, their increased life span and how they can help make intersections safer.

Power sources exhibit

This interactive exhibit showcases three energy sources -- solar, wind and hydro -- used for electrical generation. Just press the button and learn how SMUD uses these sources to generate electricity for you.

A narrated tour of the Energy & Technology Center's exhibits and classrooms and information on the day's events.
