Photovoltaic and evaporative cooling
Purpose
The contractor will develop two demonstration projects using PV to power indirect/direct evaporative cooling systems: one 115 VDC PV system supplying power to the entire home, and one 48 VDC PV system supplying power to the evaporative cooling system. (Project 3.7)
Potential benefit
Create PV-powered evaporative cooling systems, and test a possible new market for PV. Also, assist in the development of two-stage evaporative cooling technologies.
Scope of work
- Fund the development, construction and installation of a 48 VDC, 2-stage evaporative cooling unit. Install a PV system to power just the evaporative cooling unit.
- Complete the installation of a standard 115 VAC 2-stage evap cooling unit and install a 115 VDC system supplying power to the entire house.
- Monitor the installations and report on their performance.
