Mainstreaming for residential roofs
Purpose
The contractor, PowerLight Corp., will develop a new residential PV roofing product designed for both retrofit and BIPV applications. New systems will incorporate the thermal insulating properties of the PowerLight roof tile system presently used on commercial installations. (Project 3.3)
Potential benefit
Will add insulation value of R-50 to the rooftop which may be recognized by CEC Title 24 Building Energy Codes. Should have a 50-year design life and increases roof durability. Non PV tiles cover will go around PV array and on the roof's north slope.
Scope of work
- Design first-generation prototypes.
- Build, test and evaluate advanced prototypes. Acquire required code certifications.
- Install and monitor full-scale demonstration system for thermal and electrical performance.
