Solar dish concentrating with Stirling engine
Purpose
The contractor, SAIC, will test a Kokums Stirling engine and a 20KW PV receiver with dish PV receivers and complete a temporary demonstration project in Sacramento. (Project 3.8)
Potential benefit
Develop a solar concentrating system that is reliable, can be mass-produced and is ready for deployment in MW-scale solar farms or for agricultural applications
Scope of work
- Complete a design for dish PV.
- Complete a dish PV unit and operate it for six months.
- Complete a design for a dish Stirling system.
- Complete a dish Stirling unit and operate it for six months.
- Select the more promising of the two systems and prepare a design for a test installation.
- Install the system in Sacramento and operate it for nine months.
