How will I be billed?
Your regular monthly SMUD bill will have an additional line item showing you exactly how much your participation in Greenergy® costs
How will my electricity bill be calculated?
A $3 charge will be added to your regular monthly electric bill for each billing period in which you are enrolled.
How much will my bill increase?
An additional $3 will be charged to your account for purchasing the 50% Option. For example, an R-17 customer billed for 500 kWh would receive a regular charge of $40.29 plus a Greenergy charge of $3 for a total service charge of $43.29 plus taxes. (Your account rate may be different than R-17.)
For comparison, SMUD residential customers use an average of 748 kWh per month per household. Your usage may be higher or lower than the average, and will, of course, reflect seasonal variations; generally lower spring and fall and higher in summer and winter.
Will my electricity rates change over time?
Your electric bill will be a combination of your regular SMUD rate plus a Greenergy® premium. SMUD's electricity rates are set by the SMUD Board of Directors through a public noticing and participation process. You would be notified prior to any change in either your regular electricity rate or your Greenergy® premium.
What fuel sources will be used to generate my power?
The “Product Content Label” shows the resource mix projected for this year.
Is there an early termination fee?
No.
What length of agreement/contract is required?
Generally, you can cancel or change your participation in Greenergy® at any time by calling SMUD at 1-888-742-SMUD (7683) or by sending a letter. However, customers who enrolled through special Greenergy® promotional offers are eligible to cancel participation in the Greenergy® program only upon expiration of their commitment period. Customers who enrolled through special Greenergy promotional offers will continue to have a Greenergy® charge billed to their electric bill for the duration of their commitment.
