How fast does it go?

How fast do you want it to go? Is 0 to 60 mph in less than nine seconds fast enough for you? The electric motor is far more efficient than any internal combustion engine, and you get 100 percent of your horsepower 100 percent of the time.

How much horsepower does it have?

The GM EV1 has 137 horsepower, which is quite high for how light this vehicle is.

How much does an EV cost?

Most electric vehicles lease for about the same price as an SUV.

Why is this vehicle only leased?

Due to the low production of these vehicles, the cost is quite high. By leasing the vehicle, it allows consumers to utilize this technology.

How long does it take to charge?

It depends on the model, but most electric vehicles charge in approximately 3 1/2 hours from completely empty to completely full. The battery is just like a cell-phone battery: you charge it whenever you wish.

What if I wanted to go on a long trip, such as Los Angeles?

How much does it cost to charge this vehicle?

If you charge an EV at a public charger, it is absolutely free. If you charge your EV at home, you wake up to a "full tank" every morning for approximately $2 for a full charge.

What are the incentives to driving an EV?

Why are some of them shaped so funny?

For better aerodynamics. The shape allows the vehicle to travel more miles while consuming less juice.

Is it safe?

Yes. Full-function EVs have to pass all the same safety standards as gas-powered vehicles. For instance, the GM EV-1 has dual airbags, front and rear crumple zones, and side impact reinforced doors.

What happens if you are in a crash? Will the acid get on you?

The battery packs are safer in a crash case than a gas tank. The battery packs would have to be crushed to half their size before any possible problems could
occur.

Where are the batteries?

Underneath the chassis, between the frame rails where it is safest.
