In addition to having a widespread, convenient public charging network, SMUD offers low off-peak electric vehicle charging rates and provides information to interested parties.
Upon the purchase or lease of an EV, SMUD can install a charging station at your home. SMUD's team of qualified installers will work with you to determine the best, most convenient location for your charger, provide a written cost estimate, install the charger, and have the installation inspected and approved by local building officials.
Charging stations are also available at various public parking structures, shopping malls, and government buildings. Find a public charging station in your area.
We handle the details that save you time and money:
There are mainly two types of electric vehicle charging stations:
Conductive charging
The conductive charger works similar to a household appliance by transferring electricity through plugs using metal-to-metal contact. The conductive power stations installed by SMUD are manufactured by EVI in Auburn, California. These devices are designed to safely manage the dispensing of electricity, and models are available with load management and other important options.
Inductive charging
The inductive charger has no direct electrical connection to the vehicle. A weatherproof paddle transfers power to the vehicle's charge port via a magnetic field. Inserting the charge coupler is all that's required to initiate charging. Charging can be terminated at any time by removing the coupler. Owners can "refuel" in the security of their own garage.
SMUD is the exclusive distributor in California and Arizona for all models of Magnacharge inductive chargers.
Industrial electric vehicles have many advantages including clean, quiet operation and low cost of ownership. Until recently, there was only one way to recharge an EV with a standard charger that required time-consuming trips to the battery room and high maintenance costs.
But now you can save time and money using a fast Hi-Power charger from AeroVironment and Electric Transportation Engineering Corporation.
