Energy Services: Demand Bid

Help out during power emergencies

SMUD business customers can now share in market opportunities by reducing their noncritical electricity load. If your business can drop at least 75 kilowatts of predesignated noncritical load for blocks of at least two hours, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays during June through September, you may be eligible for SMUD's Demand Bid.

Online convenience

Using a Web-based management system provided by SMUD, you choose which electric systems that you can shut down when you participate.

View your usage history online

You can view your energy use and curtailment performance online in near-real time. An energy use baseline is provided that displays the average of the 10 previous normal business day's consumption. You can determine, with SMUD's assistance, which noncritical electric loads can be shut down each hour.

You're in control

When you agree to participate by pledging your curtailable electric load (a minimum of 2 hours), you shut off systems to achieve the load reduction you have pledged.

The choice is yours

SMUD's Demand Bid gives you control over your level of participation. You determine how much load to curtail, at what price and when. Plus, you'll gain new revenue to offset your energy expenses.
