Ward 2

Director Susan Patterson

Director Susan PattersonSusan Patterson was appointed in January 1999 to fill a vacancy in Ward Two of the SMUD Board. She was first elected to the position in 2000. Ward 2 includes the communities of Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Rancho Murieta, Galt and Wilton. (See map of SMUD territory.)

Patterson is currently employed by the Gas Technology Institute, a private, nonprofit research, development and training organization serving energy and environmental markets. She is responsible for project development in
California, working with such partners as the California Hydrogen Business Council, the California Fuel Cell Partnership, the California Biomass Collaborative, the California Alliance for Distributed Energy Resources, and numerous state energy and environmental agencies.

Patterson was a long-time employee of the California Energy Commission, where she most recently managed the Technology Transfer Program, which seeks to advance the market potential of new and renewable energy technologies.

Active in the community, Patterson has been involved for several years with the Sacramento AIDS Foundation and the Names Project (AIDS Memorial Quilt). In 1991, she helped organize the first AIDS Walk in Sacramento.

Patterson is a graduate of California State University, Sacramento, with a bachelor's degree in journalism-government. A resident of the Sacramento area for 40 years, she lives in Folsom.
