Ward 1

Director Renée Taylor

Director TaylorRenée Taylor has been appointed by the SMUD Board to fill the director’s seat representing Ward 1 (Fair Oaks, Citrus Heights, Orangevale and Foothill Farms).

The owner of a communications consulting firm and a resident of Fair Oaks, Taylor will replace Linda Anderson Davis, who resigned in late September.

Taylor will be eligible to stand for election to the Ward 1 seat in the November 2008 election. She was one of four people who applied for the open seat and was interviewed by SMUD directors at a public meeting in October.

As sole proprietor of Forma Communications since 1993, Taylor has worked for local governments, school districts and a variety of business clients from the energy and real estate industries, among others.

She has been on the Board of Directors of the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce since 2003 and has chaired the Fair Oaks Community Planning Council since 2005. Taylor has an extensive record of community involvement, serving a wide variety of organizations in volunteer capacities.

In the statement of interest and qualifications she submitted for the SMUD Board opening, Taylor pointed to her business experience, including work forming the Fulton Avenue Business Improvement District and subsequently serving as the group’s executive director. She said her experiences have combined to give her valuable insights into the “mindset” of Sacramento business owners.

A graduate of Del Campo High School in Fair Oaks, she holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Berkeley. As a post-graduate, she studied at Universitée de la Sorbonne in Paris, earning an Advanced French Language and Culture Certificate.
