Going green can be about saving money too
Before the economy hit the skids, everyone seemed to be talking about the environment and how to reduce pollution so we all could breathe a little easier about our future.
The concern for the environment abruptly gave way to a climate change no one was talking about a couple years ago – one caused by worst recession since the Great Depression, one whose impacts Sacramento has not escaped.
Suddenly, "going green" had a double meaning – the primary one about saving the greenbacks. Reducing the "carbon footprint"? A nice bonus, at best.
North area resident Kathy Welch admits that whittling down her energy bill was foremost in her mind when she started thinking about saving energy. But once she got in the mindset, she liked that saving energy had benefits beyond saving money.
